MARCH MEETING MINUTES, 3-18-2008

The combined meeting of Hostas of Kentuckiana, Perennial Plus and the Kentucky Daffodil Society was called to order by Phil Raisle, President of the Hosta group.

Phil conducted a short business meeting of HOK business and then turned the meeting over to KDS.

Pat Evans chaired the meeting for KDS, and brought us up to date on what is going on with the Society. We are operating with members filling the slots that are normally occupied by officers. We hope to have an election in the near future.

Pat called on Mary and Sue Bartle to say a few words about Hilda Dunaway, who we lost during the last year. Sue mentioned that Hilda was a flower judge in many different venues, including having just qualified as an iris judge. Pat was mentored by Hilda and answered any questions she had concerning gardening. Mary explained how Hilda had been an integral part of several flower societies and volunteered to serve in many offices.

Sue Bartle announced the daffodil show she will chair in Jeffersonville Indiana. It will be held on March 29th and will be open to the public after the judging has been completed.

Mary Zirnheld gave a short recap of the Treasurer’s report.

Pat told those gathered how KDS has the beautiful Mitsch blooms flown in each year to get a kick start on spring. Everyone agreed the blooms were something special. She then explained the classifications of the different daffodils that were on display. A questions and answer period followed. Pat offered Mitsch catalogs to any one who joined or renewed their membership.

KDS member Ruth Duncan has offered the club the daffodils bulbs she has on her farm in Bagdad, so we will be visiting her on April 3rd to identify, mark and take photos of the blooms. We will return at a later date to dig the bulbs for the Otte sale in August.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45PM.
